When the flag bearers are under arms on Parade, and they have to bring the flag, they will carry it by putting the butt of the pole on the right hip, holding it a slight angle, the point forward , the right hand placed a foot and a half above the end, the left hand handing behind the sword.

1st

Detach the flag from the right hip; bring it perpendicular in front of the body; grasp it with the left hand a foot and a half above the right. Take hold of the flag with the right hand at chin level, the butt three inches above the ground. At the same time let the left hand fall behind the sword.

Let the butt of the pole slide to the ground next to the tip of the right foot, the right hand continuing to hold the flag at the level of the chin, the elbow tight to the body.

Raise the flag with the right hand coming to chin level. Seize it with the left hand at the level of the bottom vest button. Raise it bringing the left hand to chin level, and drop the right hand to take it at the level of the bottom vest button. The flag upright.

 

2nd

Place it on the right hip in the manner prescribed for carrying the flag, the left hand hanging behind the sword.

Saluting with the Flag whether standing or marching.

When the person being saluted is six steps away, gently lower the pole with the lance just ten inches from the ground, keeping the head face-en-tête, the butt of the staff does not leave the hip. When two steps past the person being saluted, gently raise the flag .

Officers and sub-Officers under arms are never saluted with the flag.

When weapons are grounded, the flag is planted in the ground, and a Sentinel posted to guard it.

The Officers and sub-Officers of the Grenadiers and Chasseurs will rest on their arms, ground arms, pick up arms and re-shoulder them in the same movements as the troops.

Whenever a battalion renders honors, the flag is carried on the hip.

Whenever the battalion is in battle, the flag is carried on the right shoulder, the right arm extended and the butt in the right hand.
